NMC razes 14 illegal sheds at Nashik Road

NASHIK: Personnel of the Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) anti-encroachment department on Thursday demolished 14 sheds illegally made in the form of extension of various shops.

The anti-encroachment personnel, along with their peers from the town planning department and the Nashik Road divisional office, carried out the raids under police protection on Lam Road in Vihitgaon and Deolali and Dasak areas. They brought down as many as 14 sheds used as extension of the shops.

The shop owners of Pushpak Park Housing Society and Ambika Pooja Apartments had constructed the sheds illegally, NMC officials said, adding that the sheds included those from hotels, fabricators, tyre shops and auto spare units.

"These sheds encroached upon the footpaths and we carried out the drive to do away with these. In some areas, illegal constructions were built in residential places, besides the shops. The drive will be an ongoing process and we will remove all such illegal constructions," Nashik Road divisional officer Meena Handore said.

"Three vans, two police vans with 15 police personnel, a jeep and around 20 employees of the NMC and the divisional office carried out the drive under the instructions of deputy municipal commissioner (anti-encroachment department) R M Bahiram," added Handore.

The NMC officials had asked people repeatedly to remove illegal constructions, parking and encroachment on public places. "We are taking action on those who did not abide by the order," the divisional officer said.

Dilip Surase, an encroachment department official, said, "We removed asbestos sheets, iron angles and wooden posts from the illegal constructions."
