After ORR, Hyderabad to have a 290-km regional ring road

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has called for a preliminary study on the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR) for providing connectivity to urban and urban centres.

The RRR has been proposed in the Metropolitan Development Plan (MDP). The 290-km RRR passes through Toopran, Narsapur, Sangareddy, Eddumailaram, Chevella, Shabad, Shadnagar, Daudguda, Gundelaguda, Ibrahimnagar, Malkapuram and Bibinagar. Nearly 210 km length of RRR alignment is on existing roads and the remaining 80 km is newly proposed.

Officials told Express that the HMDA will engage noted consultants for the feasibility study using remote sensing (RS) and GIS techniques.

Initially, the RRR may not be an access controlled. However, based on the traffic growth and development in surrounding areas, the RRR can be a partially/fully controlled facility.

Preliminary concept design of RRR for short-term (by 2021), mid-term (by 2031) and long term (beyond 2031) with 2/3/4/6 lane carriage way development will be prepared, officials said.

Location of wayside amenities, toll plazas, operation and maintenance infrastructure, safety structures etc, would also be indicated in the plan, they said.

Based on the current developments and importance of RRR connectivity to urban nodes and centres, the study would recommend necessary phasing and strategies of development for RRR in line with the MDP-2013.

Corporation office to sport a new look soon

If all goes as per plans, the Kochi Corporation may soon sport a new look with the authorities pepping up the move to undertake renovation work at the Corporation office, something that has long been pending. A meeting will be held this week to discuss on how to carry on with the renovation works.

The Forest Industries Travancore (FTI) has submitted a  detailed project report (DPR) to the authorities regarding the renovation works and tenders were floated. However, FIT could not find anyone suitable to award the work yet. “This is the third time they are inviting bidders. If they cannot find a suitable one, the Corporation will have to allot the work to a contractor who can do the job specified in the DPR,” said Works Standing Committee chairperson Soumini Jain.

She added that these issues will be discussed in the meeting to be held next week so that the work is carried out without further delay. “We were waiting for Mayor Tony Chammany to come back from Italy to discuss this. The project is crucial for the launch of e-governance and has been pending long. This week, we plan to discuss how to kickstart it,” said Soumini Jain. The renovation projects was part of the e-governance programmes  undertaken by the Corporation.

The ` 3-crore multi-year project was aimed to make the Corporation a digitally advanced and completely paper-less office. Infrastructure of the old corporation building demanded a wide variety of alterations to install the e-governance.

The renovations include modernised networked workstations, associated electrical re-wiring and new furniture. Plans were also mooted to turn the Corporation offices into air-conditioned rooms for the health of over 400 computers brought as part of the modernisation project. The project was awarded `90 lakhs from plan funds.

Pending projects: MC may issue show cause notices

Ludhiana MC has finally decided to issue show cause notices to the contractors who are delaying the work. The move comes after city resident Kuldeep Singh Khaira submitted a complaint on September 3 to MC additional commissioner Sumit Jarangal.

In his complaint, Khaira demanded blacklisting of M/S Captain Enterprise which since 2011 has been unable to complete five major projects and that too which had time limit of not more than 9 months.

"Even after numerous complaints to MC no action has been taken against the contractors. In two-and-half years the contractors have hardly complete 40 per cent of the work. Time limit of 6 to 9 months has also ended way back," he said. Sources from MC Zone A headquarters confirmed that Jarangal has finally started issuing show cause notices to faulty contractors including M/S Captain Enterprise and soon the list of blacklisted contractors will be issued. Despite repeated attempts, Jarangal did not respond to the phone calls.
