Corporation commissioner told to prepare Vision 2040 document

MANGALORE: Urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Tuesday directed city corporation commissioner to prepare Year 2040 Vision Document for greater Mangalore.

The minister held a meeting with officials after he paid a surprise visit to the city corporation and took stock of things. He claimed that the local bodies of Ullal, Mulky, Bajpe, Gurupur have resolved to join Greater Mangalore. Hence he directed the commissioner to prepare the document to assess the existing infrastructure and the needs and send the document to him in 15 days.

Regarding Kudcemp 2.0, Sorake said that the first stage of ADB loan which was got to provide drinking water and UGD was not complete and hence state was getting loan from ADB for the second phase of the project.

Regarding JnNURM, Sorake said he would use his good offices to get JnNURM to the city of Mnagalore and use it to improve infrastructure.

NMMC discusses Palm Beach flyover

NMMC recently discussed its earlier proposal to build flyovers at four busy traffic junctions on the Palm Beach road from Moraj to Kille junction. The proposal has been described as "preliminary in nature," said sources. The flyovers, it is felt, will help safer and quicker vehicular flow and also help prevent road accidents.

Pune Municipal Corporation to hand over 15 vehicles to transport department

PUNE: The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation ( PMC) on Tuesday decided to hand over 15 of its unused vehicles to Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML).

"The PMPML is facing shortage of vehicles like cars and jeeps, which has affected the work of its officials and employees. The administration had given us the proposal to hand over these vehicles to PMPML," said Vishal Tambe, chairman of the committee, while speaking with reporters.

A team of officers from the utility also visited the depot and checked the vehicles which are between eight and 20 years old. The PMPML will carry out the repairs.

The civic body has around 920 vehicles in the depot. These vehicles include dumpers and tippers, jeeps, cars, electrical vehicles and ambulances. It will auction some vehicles which have completed their average life span.
