GHMC to Demolish Illegal Huts near PVNR Expressway

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation commissioner Somesh Kumar on Saturday directed the zonal commissioner to remove illegal temporary huts at Laxminagar crossroads near Pillar No 68 of the PVNR Expressway as they were causing inconvenience to the people, leading to accidents at the said location.

He instructed the officials to identify places for rehabilitating the slum-dwellers and also put up  proposals for road-widening from Laxminagar to Gudimalkapur.

The commissioner along BJP floor leader and area corporator Bangari Prakash and senior officials of the Central Zone visited few areas of Mehdipatnam division at the request of area corporator.

The corporator informed the commissioner that several accidents were taking place almost every day and requested the commissioner to take steps for road widening at the earliest.

He also visited Bhojagutta area and inspected the grave yard and directed the executive engineer and the zonal commissioner to coordinate with the mandal revenue officer for marking the boundaries and to take up the construction work of the compound wall.

The corporator has also shown a government land for setting up night shelters.

Mayor’s office proposes House, budget meet on same day

Ludhiana Municipal Corporation.

Already flouting the rules by not organising a general House meeting once every month, Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) is now facing strong criticism for proposal of holding general House meet and budget meet on the same day.

As per rules, MC House should meet at least once a month to discuss problems and grievances of city residents, but Ludhiana MC holds 2-3 meets in a year only. The last House meeting was held on January 17, and that too because the projects could not have been passed to JNNURM, New Delhi, without its approval.

Now, taking cover under an excuse of the code of conduct coming into force anytime for Lok Sabha elections, the civic body is planning to hold the budget and House meeting on the same day – which councillors say is just an “eyewash” to escape their questions and problems.

Gurpreet Gogi, councillor from Congress said, “Everything is happening against the Constitution. A House meeting cannot be held properly since grievances of more than 70 councillors cannot be heard in a single day. How can a budget meeting be also held on the same day? They are just planning a formality meeting. We completely oppose this proposal.”

Similar views were expressed by Inder Aggarwal, councillor from BJP. He said, “The House meeting itself needs at least two days to be conducted. Now, how can the budget be discussed in a few hours? It is a complete mockery of the system.” Independent councillor Daljit Grewal also shared the same views.

When contacted, Hartej Singh, secretary to Mayor said, “It is an initial proposal that both meetings will be held on the same day, but it has not been finalised. We thought that an hour will be enough to discuss the budget. But if councillors are opposing it, we will re-think the proposal.”

Crackdown against “unauthorised structures”

Staff Reporter

Municipal authorities have launched a crackdown against “unauthorised structures” in the town on Thursday.

According to municipal sources, a special squad of the corporation demolished three “unauthorised” penthouses under construction on top of multi-storeyed buildings on the busy Wyra road here in the afternoon.

The members of the squad carried out the demolition drive under the supervision of the Municipal Commissioner Srinivas Rao till late in the afternoon.

Additional personnel were deployed during the demolition of a penthouse, which is under construction atop a shopping mall on the busy thoroughfare, sources added.

The civic authorities have earlier issued notices to the owners of the buildings for construction of penthouses in violation of the stipulated rules. “We have identified nine penthouses some of them already completed and others under various stages of construction on top of some buildings on Wyra Road, Burhanpuram and other localities in the town in contravention of the Andhra Pradesh Buildings Rules, 2012,” said R. Srinivas Rao, Assistant City Planner, Khammam Municipal Corporation. Three of them had been demolished as per the directions of the higher authorities; he said adding that the action has been initiated after serving notices on the owners of the buildings in compliance with the procedures.
