SMC to have uniform recruitment policy

SURAT: Standing committee of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has asked the administrative wing of the civic body to come up with uniform policy of recruitment to pension in six months time. This decision was taken after postponing five revenue department related proposals in standing committee meeting held on Thursday evening.

Rajesh Desai Chairman of standing committee while ordering for a complete set of rules formulation based on state government norms and amendments made by the civic body in it said, " Unless we have all the norms at our disposal in uniformity , we would not be able to take right decision."

The uniform policy on recruitment to pension of an employee would be in a book let form and that would be at disposal to all and would be formulated in coordination of revenue department officials and standing committee members from the elected body .

" Different employees unions have demanded such policy , once we make a uniform policy that will define employees salary structure, promotion, criteria to promotion, Retirement and pension , it would be easy for all ." said Desai.

Contractor told to improve cleanliness in school toilets

PUNE: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has directed its contractor to improve the cleanliness of toilets in civic schools by October 2. Municipal commissioner Shrikar Pardeshi said school principals have been asked to report about the cleanliness in school toilets.

There are 134 primary schools run by the municipal school board where around 50,000 students study. The secondary education department runs 18 secondary schools where 10,000 students study. Corporators have been complaining about the lack of cleanliness in these toilets.

Earlier, the general body had discussed a proposal to allow Rotary Club of Pimpri Chinchwad to construct public toilets in six places in the city near the urinals at Babasaheb Ambedkar chowk in Pimpri, outside the octroi post in Phugewadi, in the open space inside Bird Valley, Sai chowk, Sangvi and under the Bhosari flyover.

The civic body will provide 500 sq ft space at each place at a nominal monthly rent of Re 1 for 30 years. The club will construct and run the public toilets on a pay and use basis in return for advertisement rights on them. Anant Korhale, group leader of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena ( MNS), sought to know whether the civic body will be giving land to other social organizations for constructing public toilets. Shrirang Barne, group leader of Shiv Sena, demanded that public toilets be constructed in all public places and complained that the toilets in civic schools and public places were dirty.

Officials warned against laxity in sanitation

KANPUR: Irked over heaps of garbage littered all over the city, municipal commissioner D K Singh in a meeting on Friday stressed on prioritizing sanitation. He ordered officials to ensure that roads were swept by 10am and the garbage lifted by 2pm. In a stern warning to zonal officers and others, Singh said that he would personally inspect the wards to take stock of cleanliness and initiate strict action against laxity.

During the meeting officials also raised the issue of non-cooperation by A2Z. Replying to the concern, A2Z representative Anil Sindoor said that his organization was using all available resources at its disposal to dispose garbage. He assured that the resources would soon be enhanced.

Addressing officials, Singh said that though sanitation time was 8 am to 2 pm, area must be cleaned and swept by 10am. He asked officials to prepare a register of each ward and enter names of sanitation supervisor and employees. He also directed them to prepare a weekly roster for proper execution.

He also asked the zonal health officers to upload employees' attendance of their respective zones in computer. For timely disbursement of salary, Singh said departments must submit salary bills by 24th and present it by 27th day of the month. The accounts department had to make arrangements that salary of each employee must be transferred into the accounts of employees by first of the month.
