‘Include Cantt. area in master plan’

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Federation of Associations of Colonies and Apartments (FACA) on Wednesday demanded that the Secunderabad Cantonment area be included in the draft revised Master Plan for the core area of GHMC prepared by HMDA recently.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, FACA general secretary Kamesh Babu V. referred to the requests by the colony welfare associations and development committees to bring the Cantonment area under the purview of the State government and the GHMC.

“Development works in Secunderabad Cantonment are in a shambles due to that area remaining outside GHMC purview. The master plan makes no mention of it,” he said. Mr. Babu also raised objections over taking the Census 2001 as the basis for the proposals. Rise in city’s inhabitants due to development in information technology and other sectors since 2001 had not been taken into consideration, he pointed out and demanded that the details of increased population be sought from the respective municipal circle and mandal offices.

Mr. Babu also found fault with the proposal to lay 40-feet roads in colonies, and said many poor and middle-class residents might have to lose their houses to the road-widening works. He demanded discussions with colony welfare associations and development committees before finalising the plan.
