Rs 8.92 cr recoverable from civic bodies' Executive Officers

An amount of over Rs 8.92 crore has to be recovered from several Executive Officers of Municipalities and Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the State as per the losses detected by the Odisha Government Local Fund Audit. The amount was siphoned due to mal-administration by concerned officers during the last two decades.The information received under the RTI Act by noted activist and social worker Radha Krishna Ram revealed that Rs 7.36 crore is to be recovered from Executive Officers of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation, that is, `, 6.74 crore from BC Biswal for 1998-99 and ` 61.83 lakh from Rathindranath Padhi for 1994-95.Further, an amount of Rs 50.44 lakh is to be zrecovered from Suresh Chandra Suar of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation, Rs 57.68 lakh from Bhabagrahi Patri of the Kendrapada Municipality and Rs 41,51 lakh from Godavari Pattnaik of the Dhenkanal Municipality.
Executive Officers of the NACs of Umerkote, Banpur and Kh ariar also indulged in financial irregularities. The amounts related to the cases of Dwijabar Malik of Umarkote are Rs 26,98 lakh, Prsdeep Kumar Mahapatra of Banpur :Rs.12,63 lakh and Surendramohan Majhi of Khariar :Rs 9.8 lakh.
