Walia misled Assembly on funds, alleges MCD

Staff Reporter | New Delhi

While training its guns on Delhi Finance Minister AK Walia, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has alleged the Minister presented fudged statistic of funds allocated to the civic body for developmental works in the Assembly on Monday. Sticking to its earlier stand, the MCD reiterated properties situated in rural areas, villages or urbansied villages should be exempted from property tax.

Standing Committee Chairman Yogender Chandolia alleged the dates placed by the Delhi Minister Dr Walia before the Assembly are wrong and far from the reality. “Government has not paid any heed to the five-point resolution passed by the Corporation during 2007-2010 in this regard. Exemption should be made applicable from 2007 itself. the Delhi Government due to political motives is ignoring the resolutions passed by the local body,” said he.

Chandolia said the Government promised to give grant of `50 crore for development of unauthorised colonies for the year 2010-11 and only `37.50 crore have been received so far under this head.

“MCD is taking care of sanitation in 1,539 unauthorized colonies. In all since 1998-2011, only Rs 569 crores have been given to MCD for the purpose. But it is wrongly informed that they have given Rs 3,326 crores to MCD for development in unauthorized colonies. It means they have diverted funds to the tune of Rs 2755 crores which the Finance Minister has admitted had been given to MCD as MCD got only Rs.569 crores in actual,” clarified the BJP leader.

Demanding that the said funds should be released immediately to MCD, he further added as far as regularization of unauthorized colonies is concerned, MCD has to finalize the lay-out plans but before that Delhi Government was to finalize the boundaries, which has not been done yet. “The work of finalizing the lay-out plans cannot be done by the local body unless Delhi Government finalizes the boundaries of unauthorised colonies,” said he.
