BBMP eyes shops to generate revenues

BANGALORE: To mop up revenues, BBMP now plans to lock up some shops in city markets. Reason: majority of the shops have defaulted on rent payment and are therefore causing revenue loss.

On Wednesday, conducting an inspection in west zone markets, chairman of BBMP's standing committee on markets, S H Padmaraj said K R Market which can easily generate Rs 6.25 crore was collecting merely Rs 1.25 lakhs as rent.

He further directed officials to shut down shops which have not been paying rent. "Ever since these markets were set up, BBMP has not revised rent rates. This has resulted in huge revenue loss over the years. A 15-day notice will be served to the traders to pay rent and arrears. If not, BBMP officials will shut down their shops with the help of police," Padmaraj said.
