Mumbai: The civic body on Saturday approved the budget for 2010- ’11 with some amendments. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) with its budget outlay of Rs 20,417.31 crore makes it the richest civic body in the country.

The civic administration had presented the draft budget in February. The standing committee made alterations in it and approved the amended budget on Saturday.

Mayor Shraddha Jadhav said additions and deletions up to Rs 75 crore have been made to accommodate works suggested by corporators. “There are 400 amendments in the budget. The corporators wanted provisions to include repairs of roads, sewer lines, storm water drains in their wards. I will approve them in coming days,” she said.

Although the BMC is struggling to overcome financial constraints, Municipal Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya has given an assurance that maximum and better civic amenities will be provided to citizens and there will be no axe on development work. The new budget will be implemented from April 1, 2010.
