Local bodies clock 74.65% in spending

Thiruvananthapuram, April 26

Local self-government institutions in the State have been able to clock an average Plan fund absorption rate of 74.65 per cent during 2009-10. This corresponded well with the previous year's 73 per cent. Announcing this, a spokesman of the Department of Local Self-Government said that estimates suggested that gram panchayats had utilised 73.57 per cent of their total allocation. The corresponding achievement by Block panchayats was 81.47 per cent and district panchayats 71.67 per cent. Municipalities returned 78.55 per cent while corporations logged 72.40 per cent. A sum of Rs 1,859.65 crore was allocated during the last financial year, but including the unspent balance of the previous year, the local bodies had at their disposal Rs 2,388.07 crore. – Our Bureau
