NDMC signs MoU for upgrade of medical centres

New delhi: To provide better healthcare in its hospitals, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) recently signed an MoU with the Quality Council of India (QCI) to upgrade its hospitals to meet standards listed by the QCI. Under the MoU, the QCI will oversee the upgrade work in which the NDMC will procure equipment and improve the infrastructure of its healthcare centres.The facilities covered under the agreement are Charak Palika Hospital in Moti Bagh, Palika Maternity Hospital in Lodhi Colony, 20-Allopathic dispensaries and 23-AYUSH dispensaries located in different zones of the NDMC. The time limit for completion of the project is 9 months after which the healthcare centres will be accredited under the National Accreditation Board for Hospital & Healthcare Providers (NABH). They will get a certificate to confirm that the hospitals match all standards of providing good healthcare.
“At present, some of the hospitals and centres are in bad shape. There is a lack of staff and some of the buildings are also crumbling. With the accreditation, the hospitals will get X-ray machines and improve their laboratories,” said an official of QCI.
Gyanesh Bharti, Secretary, NDMC and Dr Girdhar J. Gyani, Secretary General, Quality Council of India signed the MoU on May 21. At the occasion Gyani said, “There is growing awareness among the public and media about healthcare and so there is a need for quality healthcare services from government hospitals.”
He said that he is looking for a commitment from NDMC so that it would be possible to upgrade healthcare facilities not only in terms of infrastructure but also in the alignment of all clinical and support processes.
