Corporation launches mobile toilets in city

The Mysore City Corporation (MCC) has launched temporary toilets and mobile toilets for the convenience of visitors to the city.

With less than two days left for inauguration of Dasara festival, MCC has appealed to businessmen and hoteliers to ensure that the waste generated from their establishments are placed in pre-determined containers place at designated areas.

The MCC has stated that workers will clear the waste by morning. MCC has also appealed to tongawallahs and autorickshaw drivers to behave properly with tourists.

 It has also asked the help of visitors in keeping areas designated for Yuva Dasara, Manaranjana Dasara, Raitha Dasara, exhibition and Food Festival clean. MCC has also asked owners of hotels and shops to decorate their premises with lights in order to welcome tourists.

Special illumination

Entry to Mysore Palace will be restricted for tourists from October 8 to 17 in view of Dasara festivities.

According to a press release here, there will be no entry for tourists between 1:30 pm and 5:30 pm between October 8 and 16 and full day on October 17 in connection with Vijayadashami day. The entry is barred from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm on October 28.

There will be special illumination of the palace between 7 pm and 9 pm from October 8 to 16 and from 7 pm to 10 pm on October 17, the press release added.
Karate tournament As part of Dasara festivities, the Mysore Karate Association is organising a state-level Karate tournament on Oct 15 at the gymnasium hall of the University of Mysore.

S Siddaraju, president of the Association told a press meet on Tuesday that the Dasara organising committee had joined hands with the Association in the past years in 2006, 2007 and 2008 to hold a state-level Karate tournament as part of Dasara programme.
However, the event was dropped last dasara. “This year, we approached the Dasara organising committee and the District In-charge Minister Ramdas. But, there is no response so far. Hence, the Association decided to hold the event on its own,” he said.
About 500 men and 200 women Karatekas would take part in the tournament from across the state, he said.
Prizes await kite flying contest winnersThe Dasara Kite festival will be held on October 9 and 10 at the Helipad Grounds near Lalithmahal Palace, said Dasara Kite Festival Subcommittee president S Ganesh Rao.

Speaking at a press conference in the city on Tuesday, he said that competitions will be held in four categories. The first category will be for children below the age of 12 years, for children between the age group of 13 to 22 years, for those above 23 years, and general category, in which persons of any age group can participate.

The sub committee will be organising kite flying in several areas such as Rajivnagar, Bogadi, Vijayanagar to inform the public about the kite festival.

Deputy Commissioner of Excise Department, Dr Manjunath said that kite flying clubs from different states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have been invited to participate in the competition to make it a national-level festival.

He said that an exhibition of photographs featuring 65-70 kites from different parts of the country will also displayed at the Helipad Grounds on October 9 and 10. Around 15-20 unique kites will also be displayed at the competition. An artist has been invited to draw rangoli of kites at the venue.

Prizes

In the individual categories, first prize will be awarded Rs 5,000, second prize will receive Rs 4,000 and third prize will be for Rs 3,000. Two consolation prizes of Rs 2,000 will also be awarded.

In the general category, winners will be awarded Rs 20,000, second prize will be awarded Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for the third prize. The kite flying competitions will be held on October 9 between 3 pm and 6 pm, and October 10 between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm. Participants have been requested to register one hour before the start of the competition at Helipad Grounds near Lalithmahal Palace.
