KSCDC to clear City garbage

Bangalore, Oct 25, DHNS

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike is all set to entrust garbage disposal to the Karnataka State Compost Development Corporation.

The resurrection of the sick corporation to evolve a ‘clean development mechanism’ is on the agenda of the BBMP council monthly meeting scheduled for October 29. It is being proposed to award the garbage disposal contract the KSCDC.

According to the proposal,  the Corporation will be allotted 51 acres of land in Anekal taluk for dumping garbage and setting up a processing centre.

Several conditions have been imposed for award of the project. The land will be given on lease for a period of two years. The public limited company cannot use any toxicants to
recycle the garbage and has to ensure that land is not sub-leased.

However, the Corporation is at liberty to offer the land as security for loans from financial institutions. The title deed will be with the Palike and it can scrap the contract in case of breach of conditions.

With 24.5 per cent stake, the Palike is looking at measures to revive the Corporation. It is learnt that the Palike had in 2008 allotted nearly 29 acres of land to the KSCDC for  garbage disposal but could not carry forth the project on account of opposition from local people.
