Special sanitation drives soon

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by its contribution in maintaining sanitation standards at the Commonwealth Games venues and Games Village, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has asked its staff to carry out special sanitation drives to keep the city “clean and beautiful” ahead of the upcoming festival season.
It has also decided to depute an additional 6,700 sanitation workers for the 1,539 unauthorised colonies falling under its area taking their total deployment to 11,000 workers.
A discussion on how to improve the overall sanitation situation in Delhi was also held at the MCD Standing Committee meeting on Wednesday with councillors offering various suggestions on the issue.
MCD Additional Commissioner Anshu Prakash said: “To ensure that sanitation standards are maintained in the MCD areas even after the festival season we have decided to provide a auto-tipper in every ward to facilitate garbage disposal.”
