The health wing of the city Corporation seized stale food from some restaurants in the vicinity of the Kollam railway station during inspections carried out on Wednesday morning.

There was an attempt by employees at one of the restaurants to attack the health wing authorities. A police complaint has been lodged by Corporation health inspector Sudhakumari in this connection.

The team seized stale rice and chapattis, and the previous day’s fish curry, mutton curry, and a couple of vegetarian dishes from the restaurant, the authorities said. In the wake of the attempt to attacks the officials, the health inspector has urged the Corporation Secretary to cancel the licence of the restaurant.

All restaurants in the vicinity of the railway station were found to be violating rules, and notices were issued to them to adhere to the rules. The inspection was carried out as part of a weekly exercise by the health authorities. The inspections would be intensified in the coming days, the authorities said.

During last week’s inspection, a fine of Rs.20,000 was collected from four restaurants for violating rules.
