'Bye-Bye Mosquito' campaign takes off

After a long delay, the City Corporation has launched its programme to ward off mosquitoes in the city. A budget announcement, ‘Bye-Bye Mosquito’, planned to be executed during the pre-monsoon cleaning drive, was inaugurated by Mayor K Chandrika at Thavalode Junction in  Sreevarahom ward in the city on Wednesday.

In the first phase, it is being launched in 40 wards of the Corporation and the Kudumbashree Cleanwell workers, who have been trained for this work, will carry out spraying activities in the households. In each ward, three workers will be deployed and a household is expected to give Rs 5 for each spraying.

 During the inaugural function, the Mayor said that the project would be extended to more wards later. Deputy Mayor G Happykumar presided over.

Health Standing Committee chairperson S Pushpalatha welcomed the gathering. Welfare Standing Committee chairman Palayam Rajan, Works Standing Committee chairman V S Padmakumar, Tax Appeal Standing Committee chairman Syam Kumar, Education Standing Committee chairperson K S Sheela and councillors S Vijayakumar and B Rajendran were also present.
