GMCH to hold 3-day meet on lifestyle diseases

AURANGABAD: The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) will host the three-day seventh interdisciplinary research society conference (IRCON) at its campus from Wednesday. The conference is aimed at sharing inter-disciplinary experiences of doctors in different medical fields. The minister of medical education, Vijaykumar Gavit, will inaugurate the conference.

"The conference would focus on lifestyle-related topics such as obesity and stress management," said GMCH dean and chairman of the Medical Research Society, K S Bhople.

"This year the conference will be hosted by the GMCH medicine department," said the head of the medicine department and organising secretary, IRCON 2014, Mangala Borkar.

More than 600 doctors and specialists are likely to attend the conference, said the head of the ophthalmology department, B S Khaire. "There will be seminars and lectures on a variety of subjects in the conference. The conference will be learning experience for the students," he added.

"A variety of scientific feast has been organised for the delegates which includes topics like Allopathy v/s homeopathy, crusade against snakebite, stroke management, Alzheimer's disease, recent advances in hair transplant, stem cell transplant, cosmetic surgery and bronchial asthma," said head of anatomy and secretary, IRCON 2014, Chhaya Diwan.

"A poster exhibition will also be organised on Wednesday and will be inaugurated by Bhople. Private practitioners can register with the medicine department between 10 am and 5 pm for submission of posters and papers. Spot registration will also be accepted," informed Diwan.
