17 urban health centres get new agencies

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) allotted 17 Urban Health Centres (UHC) to new agencies on Wednesday.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, VMC Chief Medical and Health Officer M. Gopi Naik explained the modalities of running the UHC. They have to follow the guidelines evolved by an expert committee under the aegis of Municipal Commissioner G. Veerapandian.

The Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) of previous agencies were cancelled due to their failure in catering the public health requirements properly.

A total of 18 fresh applications were received and 17 were allotted through a lottery on Wednesday, Mr. Naik said and added that the new agencies have to take over the management of UHC in a couple of days.

Additional CMHOs Iqbal Hussain and Babu Srinivas were among those present.
