Polio drops given to 2 lakh kids
The Health Department on Sunday gave polio drops to 2,45232 children. Maninderjit Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Ludhiana, said, “Our target is to cover 5,65000 children under the drive. Tomorrow and day after tomorrow, polio drops will be given by visiting door-to-door by our volunteers.”

S Store opens a new outlet in city
S Store, a joint venture of Sanansh Clothing and Abhi Clothing company opened its sixth outlet at Ansal Plaza on Sunday. The group opened its first outlet in Mohali in May 2009, and later added five more stores to its at Patiala, Jalandhar and Amritsar. This group is Ludhiana-based and is making hosiery and textile garments which will be available at this store. Sandeep Gupta and Mandeep Singh of S Store said they were planning to open 10 more stores in Punjab this financial year.

Dental health check-up camp for children
A dental health check-up camp will be organised for the children in Magic Years Developmental Centre on November 17. Dr Bhavdeep Singh Ahuja will examine the dental health of the children. “Shining smile” contest and “Healthy teeth” contest will be organised on the occasion, and prizes will be given to the winners of the contest.

Baby show organised
Indian Academy of Pediatrician organsied a healthy baby show at Rotary club here on Sunday in which 350 children participated. According to Dr Rajinder Gulati, president of IAP, “The show was organised according to age groups. And Athrav Kapoor has been awarded as the “IAP baby of the year 2009” award. This child was given cash prize of Rs 2,100.”

3-5 years: Janav Chopra, Ridhima Garg, Tamannd Chawla.

Annual function of Taraksheel society held
Taraksheel Society organsied its annual function at Punjabi Bhawan here by commemorating the 102th birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. On this occasion, Taraksheel mela was held under the guidance of Ashok Kumar, general secretary of the society. Two one-act plays “Geet hai eh geet hai”and “Baapsi, directed by Chander Shekhar and NIrmal Jaura, were staged. Tricks were performed, which usually the so-called tantriks and godmen do to mislead the public. Sanal Edamaruku, president of Indian Rationalist Association, was the chief guest.

Children’s Day celebrated
The Children’s Day was celebrated at Everest Public Senior Secondary School here. More than than 100 studnets participated in the fancy dress competition. Asha Sharma, coordinator, IGNOU spoke about the importance of the day while sweets and prizes were distributed to the children.

Exhibition on education reforms held
An exhibition on latest education reforms was held at BCM School, Dugri. The parents were made aware of the various changes introduced by the CBSE. They were told about continuous comprehensive evaluation. The principal of the school, Dr Vandna Shahi also addressed the parents and explained the benefits it entailed.

Creativity, talent on display at ‘Edu Fiesta’
Students of Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School, Sarabha Nagar, unleashed their creativity and talent through “Edu Fietsa,” an annual exhibition. From working models, in-house projects, awareness campaigns, counselling sessions to win-win corner, all were there for the visitors and students. The primary section students conveyed the messages of “Save plant and earth,” “Water conservation” and “Traffic rules” to the best of their ability. The language department displayed its skills through “Sahitya parnali” and “Saada virsa”.

Vedic declamation contest held
BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Sahstri Nagar, organised 10th Inter-school Vedic Declamation contest in which forty students from 20 schools participated. In English, KVM, BVM and GNI School got first, second and third prize respectively. BCM, Basant City got a consolation prize. In Hindi, BVM, BCM Arya Model Sen Sec School, Shastri Nagar, and KVM, Civil Lines, were adjudged first, second and third. Greenland Sen Sec School received the consolation award. The running trophy was bagged by BVM School Udham Singh Nagar.

Annual function organised
Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar, organised a two-day annual function of primary wing of the school for the year 2009-2010 as “IKEBANA - 2009” in the form of cultural bonanza. The chief guests were Fr. Charles D’ Souza and Fr. Dr. Kurien Muttathupadam. The attraction of the function included a play about girl child, Punjabi Wedding, Sufi Qawali etc. A quiz was arranged for the parents.A play “India - a cradle of World Religions” took the spectators into the world of Heaven. With immense zest and fervour, children came forward to evince the confidence and abilities. While Bhangra/Giddha took everyone to the world of joy. The function ended with the School anthem.
