Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation’s (VMC) Health Department has initiated anti-larval measures in a bid to counter the mosquito menace in the city. The menace has increased in the city over the past few weeks.

Mukesh Vaidya, Assistant Medical Officer, VMC, said they have selected certain areas in the city for the anti-larval activities.

“We have released the guppy gambusia fish in the ponds and canals. We have also started fogging activities at various places. We are giving special attention to the stormwater drainages, which is one of the major places where the larvae breed,” said Vaidya.

He added: “Fogging and other anti-larval activities will be done repetitively over the next few weeks and the mosquito menace is ought to decrease within a fortnight. This time, apart from the guppy gambusia fish, we are using light diesel for fogging. Medical officers in every ward have been informed to submit ward-wise details on the pockets with pronounced mosquito problem.”

Mayor Balkrishna Shukla said: “There has been an increase in the mosquito menace in the city. Our filarial division under the Health Department is on the task and focussing on the cleaning activities across the city and by the riverbank.”

He added, “We assure that the menace will be brought under control in the next few weeks.”
