824 anti-larval teams to be deployed to spray insecticides

Action plan drawn to address vector control

Fogging to be taken up in slum areas, says official

HYDERABAD: The GHMC will deploy 824 anti-larval teams, each consisting of a field assistant and five workers, to visit households every week to spray insecticides and also identify breeding places.

A new Surveillance, Information, Response and Action (SIRA) plan to address vector control has been formulated where open larval breeding sources will be treated once a week by these teams, said Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) S. Aleem Basha.

Fogging, pyrethrum space spray, indoor residual spray will be taken up with focus on the slums.

The urban community development wing's help will be taken to educate people living in the poorer settlements if there is high incidence of vector-borne diseases.

Edge cleaning and removal of water hyacinth, chemical treatment and release of fish in water bodies of stormwater drains and river Musi will be taken up.

A vehicle with a big electric mesh is to be used in streets with high mosquito density.

Random sampling of larvae density and adult density from 10 houses (static points) will be done for follow-up action. All Deputy Commissioners will monitor the work with the medical officer, entomologist, project officer (UCD) and veterinary officer. Mosquito hot spots will be prioritised on the basis of response analysis, he added.
