Cleanliness drive, cultural events for Maharashtra’s golden jubilee celebration

Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to clean up the city and decorate it with colourful hoardings and on the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration of Maharashtra state on May 1. “The city will wear a festive look for the golden jubilee celebration of the state. All the entrance points and main roads of the city will have welcome arch for the day. The civic administration will also undertake cleanliness drive at all the historical places and make rangolis at the doors,” said Pune Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal.

There will be special efforts to clean up the city and remove debris alongside the roads, he said adding the PMC will also illuminate the civic buildings with colourful bulbs.

The celebrations will start from April 29 with the civic body putting two kalash in the Shaniwarwada premises. One container will have water collected from all the rivers in the state and other will have soil of all the forts in the state.

The container will then be taken to Mumbai where it will be mixed in the container that will have water and soil from across the state. There will be a malkhamb performance at Shaniwarwada on April 29.

On April 30 and May 1, there would be cultural functions, with special focus on culture of state, at Shaniwarwada. It would include performance of all music forms of the state. The civic body will pay homage to 105 freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the formation of state.
