Phase 2 of Clean City project launched

Special Correspondent

Thiruvananthapuram: Forest Minister Benoy Viswom has reminded citizens of their responsibility to maintain environmental equilibrium and keep the city clean.

Speaking after inaugurating the second phase of the Capital City, Clean City project launched by the City Corporation and Kudumbasree, he exhorted the public to minimise the use of plastic and ensure segregation of garbage at source.

The Minister released a leaflet highlighting the need for safe disposal of garbage. He led a team of ward councillors and Corporation officials in distributing copies of the leaflet to houses near the venue of the inaugural event at Nanthancode. Mayor C. Jayan Babu accompanied the Minister.

Under the project being launched in a phased manner, citizens are required to segregate garbage as biodegradable, non-biodegradable and hazardous waste before handing it over to Kudumbasree workers for disposal. The Corporation is simultaneously planning a scheme to plant 100 tree saplings in each ward.

The Mayor presided over the function. G.R. Anil, Chairman of the Health standing committee of the Corporation, and Chandrika, Vinodkumar, A. Sunil and Palayam Rajan, councillors, spoke.
