Rs 20cr more for filling potholes in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has additional Rs 20 crore for filling potholes in the metropolis.

The local civic body has already allotted a budget of Rs 40 crore for filling the potholes.

"Of the Rs 40 crore we have distributed Rs 36 crore in the 24 wards in the city. Due to heavy rainfall the exercise of filling the potholes was interrupted," Additional municipal commissioner Aseem Gupta said.

The civic body will also blacklist contractors if the potholes reappear, Gupta said.

BMC had identified 9,630 potholes of this 9,037 have been attended and 593 are yet to be repaired. The city has a road network of 1,950 km of this 506 km is in cement concrete.

The roads are bound to develop bad patches due to digging activities. This year, 23 private contractors have been appointed to attend to potholes and bad patches in the city, Gupta said.
