No respite yet:For the vehicle-users in Mysore, it has become a challenging task to manoeuvre through the damaged roads.
MYSORE: While the Mysore City Corporation is reluctant to take up road repair works on a large scale until the rain stops, it is expected to start filling potholes in the next two to three days as an “immediate relief” measure for the people.
“We asphalted a damaged road near Regency Theatre to check whether it withstands the rain, but the road went back to its earlier condition following the downpour in the last couple of days.
Therefore, we have decided to start roadworks only after the rain recedes. However, as tourists would arrive here with Dasara round the corner, we are looking for alternatives such as filling potholes,” said Mayor Sandesh Swamy.
Talking to The Hindu, he said: “We are ready to take up road repair, and work orders had also been issued. But the rain is stopping us from commencing the work.” Mr. Swamy said the decision on the filling potholes would be taken in a day or two after consultations with the MCC Commissioner.
For vehicle-users, it has become a challenging task to manoeuvre through the damaged roads, some of which had been asphalted less than a year ago. While many roads in the city are maintained by the Mysore City Corporation, some are looked after by the Public Works Department.
