Potholes will be fixed before last immersion day: Uddhav
After the mayor and standing committee chairman, it was Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray’s turn to inspect potholes dotting the city roads on Monday night.  He has assured that potholes will be cleared before September 22, that is the last day of immersion.

Thackeray with his son Aditya, visited roads on the eastern suburbs starting from Girgaum to Anushakti Nagar. After visiting a few spots such as Mumbai central junction, Kalbadevi and Anushakti Nagar junction, he said the city’s potholes need repairs.

Taking to Hindustan Times, Thackeray said: “It is a fact that the city has potholes but we will definitely fill them before the 10th day of immersions (Anant Chaturdashi).”

“We need a dry spell to fill the potholes. The work is on and I will visit roads on the western and eastern suburbs. I pray to Ganpati Bappa for a dry spell for a few days so that all potholes can get filled,” he added.

For Tuesday, he planned to visit the western suburbs with Rahul Shewale, standing committee chairman, Sena leader in the BMC Sunil Prabhu, AV Ralkar chief engineer (Road department) and other officials.

Members of the Ganeshostav Coordination Committee also accompanied Thackeray on his visit. Narendra Dahibawkar president of the committee said: “We are happy that the BMC is starting work on the potholes. We have decided not to approach the high court against the civic body.”

The committee had threatened to file a PIL against the BMC for failing to fill potholes.

No tax on roads with potholes

Bringing major relief to citizens travelling on bad roads, the state government has decided to waive off toll tax due to repeated complaints about poor conditions of the roads.

“A cabinet committee on infrastructure has taken the decision to waive off toll tax from the roads with potholes,” Home Minister R R Patil said on Tuesday. PTI
