PCMC plans Rs 19-cr road work

PUNE: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ( PCMC) is planning to spend Rs 19 crore on asphalting the roads that fall within municipal limits.

According to Dilip Kudale, co-ordinator, engineering department, the roads have been divided into two kinds those less than 12 metres in width and those wider than 12 metres. "Work on smaller roads, where the expenditure is within Rs 10 lakh, will be undertaken at the zonal level, with the zonal officers entrusted with the power to carry out the works. Works that will cost more than Rs 10 lakh and roads bigger in size, ie if they pass through more than one ward, will be undertaken at the head office level," he said.

As the hot mix plant starts operation around Dassera, the asphalting will commence after the festival and the works will be completed in six months, Kudale said. The proposals for asphalting in zones A, B and C, at an estimated cost of Rs 4.66 crore per ward, will be tabled before the standing committee on October 12. Another 21 proposals for road works in wards, at an additional cost of Rs 7 crore, will also be tabled, he said.
