No work on GKVK road till plan is ready

BANGALORE: Work on the controversial road that was being constructed in the GKVK campus has been stopped by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

H Ravindra, chairman of Standing Committee of Major Works has directed that all work on the road be stopped until a report on the plan is made.

The inspection comes after the issue was raised at the November monthly session by Nagapura Corporator Harish.

He said there were irregularities in the 6-km road project for which 24 acres of the green campus was acquired.

He said the officials were deliberately trying to “misguide” the commissioner with wrong information on the project.

Ravindra said construction of the road was necessary and also stated that nearly 80 m of a private company land would have to be acquired to ensure that the road is completed.

“The road is necessary with the number of new localities coming up in the area,” Ravindra said.

Sharing that the university and other groups were opposing the project, he said they would constitute a committee to look into the alleged irregularities in the project.

The BBMP and BESCOM will undertake measures to shift electricity poles and high tension wires from the road to ensure free flow of traffic.
