NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to speed up the acquisition of land for construction of major roads in the city in view of the forthcoming Kumbh mela. A proposal to deposit Rs 11.14 crore for acquisition of land for the 30 metre-development road (DP) road from Manoharnagar to Untawadi will be tabled at the meeting of the civic body's standing committee on Thursday for approval.

The proposed road will create new connectivity from Trimbak Road to Mumbai-Agra highway, via ABB Circle, City Centre mall, Manoharnagar and Govindnagar.

The land for the proposed road has been reserved in the DP of the NMC that was passed in 1993. The NMC has finally decided to speed up the land acquisition after a gap of almost 20 years. The proposal will be tabled to get approval to deposit the funds for the land acquisition with the office of the deputy collector (land acquisition) , following which the process will begin.

Apart from this, another proposal to deposit Rs 1.66 crore with the office of deputy collector (land acquisition) for acquisition of land for a 30 metre-DP road in survey no.s 769 and 770 will also be tabled at the meeting.

The civic administration has started speeding up the land acquisitions reserved in the DP. During last meeting, the standing committee had decided to acquire land at three places in the city against the transfer of development rights (TDR) and had instructed the civic administration to convince the land owners of the land concerned for TDR. The land, which was to be acquired through TDR at three locations in the city, is located at Mhasarul (survey no. 304), land behind Hotel Sai Palace (survey no. 893/2/1) and Nashik Road (survey no. 890/2A/3).
