'Rs 201.71 cr for road widening'

HYDERABAD: Patriotic fervour enveloped the city as government, private institutions and agencies celebrated the country's 67th Independence Day on Thursday. City mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain unfurled the tricolour at the GHMC head office and said that in order to provide better civic infrastructure, 22 important roads were being widened at an estimated cost of Rs 201.71 crore. He said that GHMC was constructing bridges at Kandikal Gate, Uppuguda, and Tukaram Gate at an estimated cost of Rs 37.9 crore.

The Indian flag was also hoisted at Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) at its factory. Speaking to ECIL staff acting chairman and managing director P Sudhakar spoke about corporation's achievements including installation of control instrumentation for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and command and control system for BrahMos and Akash missiles.tnn

South Central Railways (SCR) celebrated Independence Day by organising cultural programmes which were performed by students of railway schools and colleges. Addressing employees, SCR additional general manager K L Pandey said that SCR's focus was customer satisfaction and that employees should ensure that journey of passengers would be comfortable.

Among other places, Independence Day celebrations were also organised at Metro Rail Bhavan, headquarters of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and ISB.
