NMMC repairing roads to welcome Lord Ganesha

NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has begun work on repairing roads in various nodes ahead of Ganeshotsav.

The roads were in a bad shape even before the monsoon started, as they had been dug up by various agencies for civic work. Heavy rains and traffic diversions further damaged the city roads and made travelling very difficult for commuters. But these problems will all be in the past once NMMC completes repairing the roads.

Workers were seen filling potholes and asphalting roads in sector 17, Vashi over the weekend. Work is on at a war footing.

City engineer Mohan Dagaonkar had assured that repairs would be undertaken immediately after rains recede and all roads will be repaired before Ganeshotsav. But the citizens still have their doubts if the repairs will be completed on time. "I doubt if they will repair all the lanes and bylanes. Like every year, they will only asphalt the main roads. Even the method of asphalting is not right. What the city really needs is comprehensive road maintenance plan," said Vashi resident Venugopal Shetty.

Dagaonkar also said that since the roads constructed three months ago have a defect liability period, the contractor will have to repair the damage for free.
