Roads at 19 major junctions to be given a concrete facelift in 4 months

NAVI MUMBAI: Top civic sources have said that after the Bombay high court's directive to repair bad roads, 19 major city junctions are set to be concretized within four months. A budget of Rs35 crore has been allocated for the project.

After facing severe criticism from the HC and its citizens for bad roads, the civic body has initiated its concretization plan where several pock-marked roads, made primarily of asphalt, will be relaid.

The meantime, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has submitted a list of 19 major traffic junctions to the HC and will start the project after the monsoon. A proposal of Rs35 crore will also be tabled at the next general body meeting of NMMC for final approval. "WIn accordance with our commitment given to the high court we are pushing this project forward to get budgetary nod from the general assembly that will enable us to start work. Resurfacing of pothole-riddled asphalt roads was undertaken during the festival and now concretization of 19 junctions will be done in a period of four months between December and March next," said civic chief Abasaheb Jarhad.

The chowks on the list are Mahakali chowk, K Star chowk, Sakal Bhavan, Raheja Corner, Govardhani chowk (Belapur), L P Junction, Master Naresh Chowk, Gaodevi, Jhama Sweets, Dharamveer Sambhaji chowk (Nerul), Palm Beach chowk, Arenja corner, Mahatma Phule chowk, Agrawal chowk, Abhudaya Bank chowk (Vashi), D-Mart Circle at Koparkhairane, the T-junction, Khedekar chowk and Yash Paradise chowk. Following High Court's directive to provide good roads while doing away with back-breaking patches, civic body has committed to respect it thus taking up concretization work. As many as 19 key chowks which are crowded with increasing vehicular movement have been earmarked to get a makeover with concretization.
