GHMC to take over roads and buildings roads in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Commissioner (GHMC) commissioner Somesh Kumar on Tuesday said the government will soon issue a GO for handing over roads & buildings (R&B) roads to the corporation by duly creating a separate division. The commissioner stated this at a review meeting held with senior GHMC officials.

Speaking on the occasion, the commissioner said, "With the proposal of merging the R&B roads in GHMC, we can avoid blame from public on maintenance roads." He further asked officials of various departments to work and travel as a team and prepare a holistic plan to develop a road length while addressing various issues such as sanitation, footpaths, patch works and greenery.

The commissioner assured that the GHMC was ready to provide all support and asked officials to come up with proposals for holistic development of 40 kilometre road in each circle within 10 days. He said that the GHMC was planning to make specific changes in road maintenance policy by calling tenders. "The GHMC can give stretch-wise contract for newer roads and for older one, we should give quantity-wise contract," he added.

The commissioner, who observed the condition of roads, said that time was short and in a span of two to three months the GHMC has to take up repairing works on a war-footing basis as the elections code comes into force.
