Panchkula: In order to decongest the Pinjore-Kalka highway, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) will build a 7.3 kilometre long Pinjore bypass connecting Surajpur (a few kilometres before Pinjore) to Baddi.

This will be the second bypass on this stretch — one from Pinjore to Parwanoo is being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

HUDA has received approval for the Rs 32-crore project from the Haryana government.

“We propose to construct a six-lane Pinjore bypass for Baddi, which will start around 150 metres ahead of the Surajpur bridge and meet the Pinjore-Nalagarh road near the Aviation Club. The bypass will be 7.3-km long. We plan to start construction by the end of this year,” a senior HUDA official said.

He added that around 250 acres of land has been acquired for the project and tenders will be floated soon.

“The process to get clearance from the Ministry of Environment is on. Once the construction starts, we aim to complete the work within a year,” the official said. “Initially, a three-lane bypass will be constructed, which will be widened into six lanes.”

Former Sector-10 councillor B B Singal said, “This is a welcome step and will go a long way in decongesting traffic on the highway. There have been times when commuters had to face long traffic jams. Also, the condition of the Baddi road is so bad that passing through it is a challenge.”
