Staff Reporter

Works will be carried out at a total cost of

Rs. 6.5 crore

PUDUCHERRY: The Project Implementation Agency has floated tenders for road and drainage improvement works in Krishna Nagar.

The works have been split into five parts. The first two include the road and drainage improvement works from T.V. Nagar to 5 {+t} {+h} Cross Krishna Nagar and from 5 {+t} {+h} Cross to 20 {+t} {+h} Cross. The remaining include improvement of internal roads to the north and south of Krishna Nagar Main Road; formation of internal roads in Ezhil Nagar and Devaki Nagar; and road improvements in Suryagandhi Nagar and Vasanth Nagar.

The works would be carried out at a total cost of Rs. 6.5 crore, according to an official.

The works, when completed, would provide much-needed relief to residents of Krishna Nagar, which has been plagued by civic woes for years. Several parts of the area do not have proper roads and roadside drainage. The situation gets worse during the rains, when the roads turn unusable.

GHMC, SCB fight over trees

May 19th, 2010
Hyderabad, May 18: A fight over jurisdiction has resulted in neither the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) nor the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) clearing the many trees that fell in Sunday’s thunderstorm, blocking city roads.

At least two dozen trees and branches fell in the heavy gales, blocking the West Marredpally Road from Ganesh temple to AOC. They continue to block the road two days later as the SCB and GHMC cannot decide whose job it is to do the clearing up. While the GHMC says the West Marredpally road is maintained by Cantonment authorities, the latter argues that the trees belong to the municipal corporation.

In this petty quarrel, motorists and pedestrians are inconvenienced with traffic jams becoming a common sight on the West Marredpally stretch.

“The area that is located to the right side of the West Marredpally main road (Secunderabad Public School side) belongs to the GHMC. The trees are in GHMC jurisdiction and because branches from those trees were felled, it was the duty of the GHMC to clear them,” said the SCB health superintendent, Mr O. Gajjaram. He said that once the GHMC removes the trees and branches, the SCB will take up sweeping operations and clean the road.”

The GHMC North Zone zonal commissioner, Ms K. Shivaparvathi, however said: “The West Marredpally main road belongs to the SCB. The trees and branches fell on the road. The sanitation of this road is done by the SCB. It is the duty of Cantonment authorities to keep their road clean. The GHMC sweepers have never attended to sweeping on that road. It is always the SCB workers who carry out sweeping operations on that road.”

Express News Service Tags : milan subway road over bridge, mumbai Posted: Tuesday , May 04, 2010 at 2332 hrs

Mumbai: To speed up the work on Milan Subway road over bridge in Santacruz, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has decided to resettle 325 project affected persons (PAPs) in Vile Parle. The persons will be shifted to plot no. 398 in Vile Parle, provided by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

MMRDA has started the preliminary work on the construction of the building to house PAPs, officials said. In the meantime, BMC has given an NOC to construct transit quarters for accommodating PAP’s temporarily on plot no 1825 in Vile Parle.

“The work on transit quarters has already begun and they will be ready soon. Work on the connectivity of Milan ROB to the Western Express Highway service road is expected to begin once the PAPs are rehabilitated,” said Ashwini Bhide, Joint Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA.

The project was delayed after the PAPs demanded to be rehabilitated in the same locality. The 700-metre flyover that was slated to be completed by May-end will now be completed by August.

The bridge has 2 carriageways and each carriageway has 2 lanes connecting SV Road and Western Express Highway service road.
