Potholes across divisions get cold mix cover

NASHIK: The public works department of the civic body has from Tuesday started covering potholes across all six divisions of the city with cold mix and covered maximum potholes in the divisions. With the rain taking a break on Thursday, the work was halted but is expected to be completed by Friday.

The public works department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) began using the cold mix to fill potholes on the roads beginning with Satpur and CIDCO divisions on Monday afternoon. From Tuesday onwards, the cold mix was used in all other divisions.

"We have completed filling potholes in maximum places. By Friday, we expect to cover the rest," said an engineer of the Satpur division, which was one of the first divisions to begin the work.

"In CIDCO, there are too many potholes. With the rain taking a break on Thursday, we decided to continue the work on Friday or whenever it rains next," said an engineer of the CIDCO division.

Tenders worth Rs 30 lakhs had been floated in the end of July and the work order was awarded in the beginning of August. The NMC had in the meantime used the traditional method of repairing the roads.

"When it is raining, all we have to do is to open sacks on the spot and spread the cold mix immediately on the potholes. But before that, we have to clean the potholes of any gravel or mud. We will fill the potholes in all the six divisions of the city soon," said Sumeet Netawane, a contractor.
