Rs.201.71 crore for widening of 22 roads

The GHMC has taken up widening of 22 major roads at an estimated cost of Rs.201.71 crore apart from construction of three new major roads at an estimated cost of Rs.66.92 crore, Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain said here on Thursday.

The Mayor said the corporation was also constructing RoBs at Kandikal Gate, Uppuguda and Tukaram Gate at a cost of Rs.37.93 crore and also RuBs at Rail Nilayam, Safilguda and Uttam Nagar while flyovers have been proposed at Tolichowki, Balanagar and Amberpet 6 No crossroads. The other projects of the GHMC included sports complex at Chandulal Baradari, Hindi Nagar, Laxmi Nagar and Shalivahana Nagar and swimming pool at Amberpet. The corporation was also providing electric crematoriums and remodelling the existing ones at an estimated cost of Rs.6.71 crore, he said.

The 67th Independence Day was celebrated on Thursday with nationalistic fervour, zeal and enthusiasm across the state.

Speaking after unfurling the national flag at GHMC head office here, Mayor M Majid Hussain said that to provide better civic amenities for the people the GHMC has taken up widening of 22 major roads with an estimated cost of Rs 201.71 crore and planning to lay three new major roads at a cost of `66.92 crore. GHMC is constructing road over bridges (RoBs) at Kandikal Gate, Uppuguda and Tukaram Gate with an estimated cost of `37.93 crore, RUBs at Rail Nilayam (Alugadda Bavi), Safilguda, Uttam Nagar and flyovers were proposed at Tolichowki, Balanagar and Amberpet crossroads, he said.

Later, they distributed bank linkage to self help groups, Aasara Identity Cards, Vikasam Identity Cards, artificial limbs, tricycles and wheelchairs to physically challenged persons. SVP National Police Academy director Subhas Goswami unfurled the national flag and advised the trainee IPS officers to have a paradigm shift from authority-based policing to right-based policing. He wanted them to be more humane in khakhi.

Independence Day was celebrated at Metro rail Bhavan here. HMR managing director NVS Reddy said that Metro Rail works were going on at a brisk pace in the city and added that road repair works  would be carried out on a warfooting basis to lessen problems of commuters during the monsoon.

Hyderabad district collector Mukhesh Kumar Meena distributed the books to school students after hoisting the national flag.

He also presented meritorious awards to the employees of various departments on the occasion.

APSRTC chairman M Satyanarayana Rao along with managing director AK Khan hoisted the national flag and received guard of honour.  Speaking on the occasion, Rao asked the  staff to work hard for betterment of the Corporation.

The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) also celebrated Independence Day and SCRMUV general secretary Ch Sankara Rao unfurled the Tricolour. He cautioned of the imminent threat of privatisation and outsourcing.

HYDERABAD: Patriotic fervour enveloped the city as government, private institutions and agencies celebrated the country's 67th Independence Day on Thursday. City mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain unfurled the tricolour at the GHMC head office and said that in order to provide better civic infrastructure, 22 important roads were being widened at an estimated cost of Rs 201.71 crore. He said that GHMC was constructing bridges at Kandikal Gate, Uppuguda, and Tukaram Gate at an estimated cost of Rs 37.9 crore.

The Indian flag was also hoisted at Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) at its factory. Speaking to ECIL staff acting chairman and managing director P Sudhakar spoke about corporation's achievements including installation of control instrumentation for Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant and command and control system for BrahMos and Akash missiles.tnn

South Central Railways (SCR) celebrated Independence Day by organising cultural programmes which were performed by students of railway schools and colleges. Addressing employees, SCR additional general manager K L Pandey said that SCR's focus was customer satisfaction and that employees should ensure that journey of passengers would be comfortable.

Among other places, Independence Day celebrations were also organised at Metro Rail Bhavan, headquarters of the Hyderabad Metro Rail, Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and ISB.
