Draw for allotment of JNNURM houses begins

VISAKHAPATNAM: Draw of lots for another phase of houses under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) began Tuesday. Over a period of five days, lots will be drawn for allotment of 2,910 houses.

Earlier, 6,000 houses had been allotted to those displaced by the Gangavaram port, those left over in the WAMBAY housing programme etc. A total of 15,300 houses are being built under the urban mission.

Iris identification

Participating in the draw, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao said iris identification would also be taken up to those allotted houses. Of the total unit cost of Rs.1,64,300, Rs.1,09,000 is subsidy, Rs.35,000 is loan and Rs.20,300 is beneficiary contribution.

The Mayor said all basic amenities were being provided in the colonies but the residents should form a committee and work for its upkeep.

Municipal Commissioner V.N.Vishnu said construction of another 20,000 units under the urban mission would be taken up soon. The 1.3 lakh families living in the 770 slums would be provided houses in a phased manner in the slum development programme Rajiv Awas Yojana.

The guidelines for allotment of JNNURM housing units were worked out after discussions with the minister from the district, the district in charge minister, the District Collector and people's representatives.
