State to spend Rs 2,000 cr on amenities for slums

Bangalore, Nov 15, DHNS

The State Government will provide basic amenities in slums located in 40 cities and towns under Rajiv Awaz Yojna at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore.

Housing minister Katta Subramanya Naidu on Monday told reporters that the programme would be implemented in next five years and the Centre would be requested to provide Rs 1,000 crore for the project.

He said the government would provide possession certificates to those living in slums that had come up on government land. Similarly those in slums in private land would also get the certificates if the private owners agreed to part with their land for Transferable Development Rights (TDR).
