Mayor urged to help complete housing colony

HYDERABAD: Residents of Shamshiguda Housing Colony have appealed to Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy to ensure that the houses being built under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) are completed and allotted to the beneficiaries.

The Mayor, along with some GHMC officials, visited Shamshiguda on Friday and inspected the 3,244 houses being built there in 203 blocks by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The local residents complained to the Mayor that they had paid initial amount for the houses six years ago and have since been waiting for allotment. Later, Karthika Reddy made a surprise visit to a tiffin centre and enquired about the trade licence. She inspected the kitchen and directed the management to improve hygiene.

She inspected a cloth shop in Ameerpet and found that the owner did not possess a valid trade licence. She warned him of action if a licence was not obtained soon. On being informed that officials were delaying renewal of licences, she promised to take action against the staff found harassing shop-owners.

AASARA: Karthika Reddy said the GHMC Aasara programme for senior citizens would be extended to all 150 divisions in near future.

At a volunteers’ meeting on Friday, she said over 40,000 identity cards had so far been issued to senior citizens in the city. A daycare centre, regular health and meditation camps besides cultural activities were being held for Aasara members. She sought suggestions to improve the services.

Deputy Mayor Jaffar Hussain wanted the volunteers to focus on economic analysis of senior citizens through NGOs and focus on issues of elderly women.
