DDA officials inspect flats in Vasant Kunj housing complex

Senior officials of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Tuesday visited Vasant Kunj housing complex, part of the DDA Housing Scheme 2010, to take stock of the situation. DDA sources claimed that this was part of a routine inspection to expedite work on ground. No action was taken against any official, they said.

Newsline had earlier had carried a series highlighting the condition of the 484 flats in Vasant Kunj, which were still under construction in Yamuna and Ganga blocks with exposed wires and broken furniture strewn all over.

A senior official said: “This was part of our routine inspection. Everything seems to be fine in Vasant Kunj. In fact, people are living in some of the flats. We hope to have the Yamuna and Ganga towers ready by December.”

Officials from DDA are expected to visit Dwarka and Rohini housing complexes also.

“In Dwarka, water is a problem and providing connections will take time. Meanwhile, we have asked discoms to expedite work of providing power connections to the complexes,” said the official.

On Saturday, senior engineers had inspected the 336 flats in Mukherjee Nagar where allottees were given possession in June, though the flats were not in a liveable condition. Four engineers were suspended for dereliction of duty, following the inspection .

While taking over charge last week, the DDA vice-chairman Sanjay Kumar Srivastava had promised action against officials who were found to be responsible for incomplete work at various housing sites under the DDA’s Housing Scheme 2010,

Loans on priority to allottees of houses under JNNURM

Special Correspondent

GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu recently said that bank loans would be made available on a priority to persons allotted houses in the colonies developed under the JNNURM scheme and contributing 10 per cent of unit cost.

Announcing the successful signing of a memorandum between the banks and the APUFIDC for sanctioning a loan of up to Rs. 80,000 for each beneficiary, he pointed out that 19,1919 have already handed over their 10 per cent contributions of the 21,594 chosen.

Directive to SBH

The government has released Rs. 102 crore through a Government Order, which in turn, has settled the problem of drinking water connectivity to the various housing colonies for the poor which are well outside the geographical circle of the municipal corporation.

The Commissioner directed SBH officials to designate certain banks as JNNURM banks for Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak districts in order to sanction bank loans. The engineering officials concerned were directed to make available the necessary details and maps to agencies like the A.P Industrial Technical Consultancy Organisation (APITCO) to help document the work of loan disbursal.

Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak Collectors are to issue notices to allottees to pay up the remaining amount before September-end or face the prospect of the unit being allocated to another person. A few houses could be spared for accommodating the people being evicted from the storm water drains too as a means of rehabilitation.

Slum dwellers paying the 10 per cent contribution should be identified in Hyderabad district so that the in-situ construction of new dwelling can be taken up, he said.
