Awareness campaign on solid waste management

Taking note of the seriousness of solid waste disposal in urban set up, students of Department of Commerce, St Agnes College, Mangalore started a community awareness campaign on solid waste management. The programme was held as a part of the extension activity. The members of the Executive Committee took an oath.
The campaign was thrown open by St Agnes Principal Dr (Sr) Maria Prem D’Souza. The students took out a rally in the college premises, holding placards reading words like ‘recycle’, ‘reuse’, ‘reduce’, ‘replenish’, ‘prevent’, ‘prohibit’, ‘protect’ and ‘preserve’.
Community awareness campaign of the college on solid waste management was inaugurated by Mangalore City Corporation Commissioner Dr Vijay Prakash on March 23. As a part of its continuing action plan, an awareness week on solid waste management is
being held by the Department from August 9 to 13.
As a part of the week long campaign, a paper bag making demonstration will be held on Tuesday, video show on solid waste management will be screened on Wednesday at the college auditorium. Wealth from waste-an exhibition will be held on Thursday and on Friday a tableau on waste management by the students will be staged at the college auditorium. Similarly, one hour programmes on solid waste management will be held for I, II and III year B Com students during Value Education Classes during the week.
Staff co-ordinator Dr Devi Prabha Alva, student co-ordinator Anjali Rao among others were present.
