LMC to take NGOs' help for managing waste

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has decided to join hands with NGOs to settle issues related to solid waste management (SWM) in urban slums. This was decided at a meeting between representatives from the LMC and stakeholders from various NGOs at the corporation office on Wednesday.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, additional municipal commissioner, PK Srivastava said that LMC had limited resources while the population of the city had grown spirally. The skewed equations were letting important sanitation and development issues go unaddressed. "Knowing that public-private partnerships are a tested and reliable answer, we have decided to join hands with the NGOs,'' he said.

As a follow-up to the same, the LMC has asked 40-odd participating NGOs to provide LMC with the details of house-holds and populations. The NGOs will give an insight on the possibilities of initiating steps to manage the solid waste generated in slums.
