Stay against setting up treatment plant

Lalur residents to resume their agitation

Thrissur: The Lalur Malineekarana Viruddha Samara Samithi here on Tuesday urged Mayor I.P. Paul to convene an urgent meeting of the implementation committee of the Lalur Model Project for Solid Waste Management (LAMPS).

“The implementation committee should chalk out a plan to clear the hurdles ahead of the project. Some people with vested interests are trying to torpedo the Lalur Model Project. Our agitation is for the right to fresh air and pure drinking water. The garbage issue has been politicised,” the samithi alleged in its plea.

The work under LAMPS was stopped after the Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithi obtained a stay against setting up a regional treatment centre at Sakthan Thampuran market.

The samithi reiterated its decision to resume its agitation from November 30 if the authorities failed to take appropriate measures to vacate the stay.
