Rs 278 crore provisioned for solid waste management in urban areas of State

A scheme has been chalked out for solid waste management through modern methods in urban areas of the State.

The scheme has been included in Mukhyamantri Urban Sanitation Programme. Under the scheme, work of providing scientific landfill site and declaring towns dustbin-free is being done on priority. Rs 278 crore has been provisioned for this work in the State during next 5 years.

Solid waste management scheme is being implemented in Gwalior city with financial assistance of Defence Ministry.

Initiative has been taken to declare Panna and Sailana towns as dustbin-free recently. Door-to-door waste collection has been started in selected wards of other cities of the state. Urban Administration & Development Department is imparting training to staff of urban bodies to ensure effective implementation of the project.
