AMC mulls alternative steps for collection of garbage from city

ALLAHABAD: Allahabad Municipal Corporation has decided to make alternative arrangements for collecting garbage from the city as Allahabad Waste Processing (AWP)- the private company entrusted with the task- has expressed inability to do so. In this connection, an important meeting was conducted at AMC office on Monday under the leadership of mayor Abhilasha Gupta.

The mayor discussed the scenario with the AMC officers and it was decided that in view of the present condition, AMC will keep 250 sanitary workers on an outsourcing basis. This is in addition to the workforce of about 350 outsourced sanitary workers.

Further, AMC has decided that from now onwards, garbage will be collected both during the day and night. AMC will soon start door-to-door collection work. All the zonal officers have been allocated vehicles for lifting the garbage.

During the meeting, additional municipal commissioner Satish Sharama, environment engineer Sanjeev Pradhan, health officer YK Chaturvedi, legal advisor SL Yadav and project manager of AWP Lalit Vijay were present.
