HC disposes petition against waste management


BANGALORE: The High Court on Tuesday disposed a petition that challenged the awarding of tender in favour of M/s Matha Overseas Private Limited, for the transportation of municipal solid waste in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.

Disposing the petition filed by SRP Clean Enviro Engineers Private Limited, Justice HN Nagmohan Das directed the petitioner to approach a statutory appellate authority within ten days.

The court also observed that the tender awarded to Matha Overseas Private Limited would be subject to the final outcome of that appeal.

The petitioner’s counsel argued that Matha Overseas Private Limited and Canara Overseas Private Limited had applied for tenders, but both companies are owned by a single management. The BBMP had modified the conditions of the tender notification merely to accommodate Matha Overseas company, the petitioner’s counsel argued.

The BBMP had called for tenders for the transportation of solid waste from landfill area to the processing centre, involving thousand of tonnes of wastes per day.

HC restrains BBMP from demolishing apartment

The High Court has restrained the BBMP’s decision to demolish a portion of Terrace Apartment in Ittamadu village, Bangalore, for the expansion of storm water drains.

Hearing the petition filed by VN Natarajan and others, justice HN Nagmohan Das stayed the demolition process for two weeks and asked the petitioner to file a civil suit in the lower court.

Contempt petition against Kageri

One more civil contempt has been filed against Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri in the High Court on Tuesday regarding the refusal of permission to use English as the medium of instruction in the state’s schools.

The petitioner MS Khan, head of Modern English Medium School in Ejipura, Bangalore had filed the civil complaint against the Minister.

According to the complainant, the Minister has prevented his officers from filing affidavits before the court which seek permission to allow English as the medium of instruction in schools, and that he has also refused permission to start English medium schools.

HC orders stoppage of work on Makkaji Chowk

The High Court has verbally directed the state government to stop the construction of a commercial complex in Mysore by Maverick Holdings and Investment Private limited.

Hearing a petition filed by residents of Mysore, the division bench asked the government counsel not to proceed with the construction of the commercial complex which is close to some heritage buildings.

Petition on raja kaluve admitted

The High Court has issued a notice to BBMP on a petition seeking direction to demolish buildings on Raja kaluve (storm water drains) in Bangalore.

Five years law course advocates association had filed the public interest litigation seeking direction to the BBMP to remove the encroachments of Raja kaluve.
