MCR to notify defaulters list

Staff Reporter

As the financial year is drawing to a close , the Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry (MCR) has intensified tax collection. Municipal Commissioner M. Jitendra along with his deputy V. Ravindra at a media conference on Tuesday announced measures to collect the arrears.

Mr. Jitendra said the MCR had collected Rs. 17.29 crore out of Rs.21.77 crore house tax dues. He appealed to people to pay house tax immediately without waiting for deadline. He clarified that government has already announced that there will be no waiver of interest on late payment of property tax or water tax as it was done earlier and people should not expect any waiver this time.

He said they had collected only Rs.1.72 crore out of Rs.19.93 crore of vacant land tax in the city. He said if any one failed to pay the vacant land tax consecutively for three years, their land will be confiscated first and be auctioned later. However, he maintained that they had succeeded in collecting 99 percent rents from municipal shops which amounts to Rs.1.17 crore out of 1.27 crore.

Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ravindra said they want to display the names of defaulters and a large amount of pending cases in website and also through public notices. He said they want to make tamuku in front of the defaulters.
