MOHALI: Municipal council, Mohali, is all set to impose property and house tax. The council has already made a proposal that has been submitted to the secretary, local bodies department.

MC officials claimed that in Punjab all local bodies are imposing taxes. In the proposal, it has been mentioned that after the octroi was abolished, MCs have been left with no source of income.

Tax would be imposed on buildings given on rent and which are used for commercial purpose. Owners of paying guest houses too might be brought under the purview of taxes. Officials said 15% of total income would have to be paid as tax. MC president RS Rana said tax were being imposed due to shortage of funds.
